HER EYES ARE POOLS OF LIQUID NIGHT

Her eyes are pools of liquid night
And in them I am bound
Words she whispered unto me
Yet utters not a sound

Her hair is like dark ocean waves
Her skin the ebon moon
Sanguine drips from ashen lips
Death has come too soon

A rhapsody I once had heard
Put my mind at ease
The rapid beating of my heart
Near brought me to my knees

Evening's chill caressed my form
But set my soul ablaze
At my feet she bowed her head
Yet held her steady gaze

Time itself then held for me
As she stumbled to her knees
Starlight blossomed in her eye
Lips quivering silent pleas

A melody I once had learned
I began to hum
Excitement then ran down my spine
And made my fingers numb

A ghastly sound my laughter took
To see her in despair
Still, I gazed into her eyes
So beautiful and rare

Silence overwhelmed me then
Standing there alone
Starlight faded from her eyes
Where once true love had shown.
